The Story

Working with NINE dot ARTS, Saint Joseph Hospital developed an art program for its new facility to promote a healing and spiritually nourishing experience reflective of the hospital’s safe and caring environment for the communities it serves. As a faith-based organization in the Catholic tradition, Saint Joseph Hospital recognizes the inherent power of art to help heal and inspire its patients, visitors, employees and community. The art project opened with a call for entry to the community at large with Colorado-based artists given priority. The community responded overwhelmingly with close to 7,000 interior and exterior entry images from which the 17-person art committee selected. The collection features more than 100 new works of art from over 80 Colorado artists and galleries in addition to more than 250 pieces of employee and medical staff artwork. Saint Joseph Hospital has positioned itself as a truly inclusive steward committed to the artistic, spiritual and physical health of its community.

“We discovered that people need to be surrounded by images that convey a sense of hope and beauty. The art program builds on the hospitality of our staff to create a setting that fosters healing and health – our core purpose.”Sister Melissa Camardo
